Let me introduce myself, my name is Badriah. I am a student of Senior High School Two of Cianjur, West Java.

I would like to share my best of knowledge related to  How to be  a critical and creative millennial.

In 2020 the world enters a new era called the Industrial 4.0 era. In this era, industry uses technology such as robots, artificial intelligence, super-sophisticated computers, autonomous vehicles, 3D printing, and other technology including the optimization of the functioning of the human brain with genetic editing and neurotechnology development. At first glance it might look fun and amaze, but there will be losses caused by the industrial revolution.

This Industrial Revolution 4.0 must have caused disruption. The disruption not only in the business sector, but also in the labor market. There will be many types of work lost and replaced by robot or artificial intelligence functions, so that inevitably, like it or not, it requires us to continue to develop skills so that we are not eroded by the technology in the future.

(7. Arguments)
Millennials can not escape the changes brought on by the 4.0 industrial revolution. The generation who are in productive age must be prepared because the future of the industrial world is in their hands. Not enough to be smart and master the theory, they must have high learning abilities and skills to be able to keep up with rapid technological changes.

Because of the situation above, millennials should have at least ten basic skills to be ready, be  creative, and be critical in the face of the Industrial era 4.0 quoted from Future of Jobs Reports, the World Economic Forum.


The first is Complex problem solving

Complex problem solving here is the ability to solve complex problems in various ways. Starting from identifying, determining the main elements of the problem, seeing various possibilities as a solution, taking action / actions to solve problems, to find lessons to be learned in order to solve problems in the future. 


The second skill is People management

People management is the ability to organize, lead and utilize human resources in a targeted and effective manner.


 The third is  Creativity

Creativity or creativity is the ability to continue to innovate and improvise in developing good ideas, old ideas or new ideas and creating something unique and interesting.


 The fourth is Critical thinking

Critical thinking is a way of thinking sensibly, has a clear basis and goals, so that planned thoughts and ideas can be implemented properly and have goals that are oriented towards maximum results.

 

The fifth is  Coordinating with other

A business will become big if it has a strong structure and compactness.

Therefore, teamwork is needed, either by internal teams, as well as with other people who come from outside the team.

 

The sixth is Cognitive flexibility

Cognitive flexibility is the ability to spontaneously compile knowledge, in many ways, in giving a self-adjusting response to radically change situational demands.

 

The seventh is  Emotion intelligence

Emotion intelligence or emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to regulate, assess, accept, and control the emotions of himself and others around him.

 

The ninth is Service orientation and  Judgment and decision making

Service orientation is the desire to help and serve others as best as possible to meet their needs. By having a service orientation, customers or consumers will certainly give a positive assessment of us and the trust of consumers is what makes a business or business strong.

Judgment and decision making is the ability to make decisions quickly and precisely on the situation at hand. Especially when under pressure.

 

The tenth is Negotiation

Not everyone has the ability to talk and negotiate, let alone to convince others in terms of work. For that, we need to practice a lot with this negotiating ability.

Dear judges,

Those basic skills allow millennials to survive. Using those basic skills millennials will be successful because it is nature critical and creative millennials to be pragmatic.

It is a fact that the financial explosion of the last 10 years reinforced the difference between needs and wants, making you hypersensitive to resource and asset management. This pragmatic outlook enables to millennials create realistic goals using the resources they have. If given the time and opportunity, pragmatic, goal-oriented thinking makes businesses more innovative and productive cause millennials to be a success person.

 Further, using the basic skills, millennials can adapt to change. As a result of navigating the start of your career through a sluggish economy, you had to learn to retool millennials skillset to fit the job opportunities available. Because of this experience, learning a new tool or skillset on the job doesn’t faze millennials at all.

 I as one of the millennials, I have come to expect and anticipate change. This makes me ready and willing to learn what is needed to get the job done right.

Then, critical and creative millennials is noticed by their scrappy and frugal

 Resilience in the face of adversity is millennials jam. Millennials know that nothing good comes easy and they are willing to put in the time and effort to see their  dream (a realistic one, of course) come to life. In the workplace they fight to make your work more value to their clients and their company while being cost-efficient.

 As the Brookings paper notes, "A report by UBS Wealth Management in the Americas described Millennials as 'the most conservative generation since the Great Depression' with regard to its saving habits."

Dear judges,

Millennials solve systemic problems with innovative solutions

 As a Millennial in an office job after the Great Recession, we are aware of the negative impacts of working in a broken system. We seek ways to rethink company processes and policies that may be causing more harm than good—but haven’t been changed because 'that’s the way they have always been done.'

 Being willing to question the status quo of any company we work for enables us to see easy opportunities for growth that others overlook.

 As reported in a study from Bentley University, 95% of Millennials say a company's ethics are important to them—with 22% specifically concerned about a company's environmental policies. “This focus on the environment has caused many companies to change their existing programs in favour of stronger sustainability policies and practices,” concluded Gloria Cordes Larson, President of Bentley University.

 Dear Judges,

Millennials value relationships over a paycheck

 Because millennials have likely worked many different jobs before hitting 30 and worked with many different types of people, millennials have learned what you do from nine to five doesn’t define you. What’s more, millennials have found that any true meaning millennials find in your work is based on the relationships you create—with millennials coworkers and millennials clients.

 Because millennials value the quality of relationships millennials create at work, you are able to bridge gaps in company culture through, if not friendship, at least camaraderie.

 Millennials take care of themselves

 Not only is self-care the best care, but it is essential for preventing burnouts. Millennials know this because millennials did burn out once—or several times.  As a result, millennials know how important it is for their mental and emotional well-being to have a well-rounded diet, to leave work at work, and to get a good night’s sleep.

 “Some research suggests that as we dream, we process through negative emotions (such as stress, anger, or anxiety) experienced during the day. As our sleeping brains digest these emotions, we are able to move past them, setting the stage for a more positive outlook in the morning,” responded Sarah Brown, a sleep expert.

 By prioritising health, and setting and enforcing boundaries, millennials are able to consistently give your best to their job and your relationships.

For all the flak that my generation gets for being lazy or narcissistic, me and my peers have characteristics that are sorely needed in any company that wants to be competitive in the future. Because of what Millennials bring to the table, they are changing how we all do business. 


Being creative and being critical for millennials are a must.
I hope this speech explain why.
