Why Social Distancing in Cianjur Fails

In this fifth day of practicing social distancing as commanded by the government, Cianjurans people seem not to be affected by the outbreak of Covid-19. People are asked to do working from home, yet only a few people who obey that. Many people who must wake up every morning and earn money during the day, the isolation for 14 days issued by government does not influenced these kind of people. They should leave the house every morning or their family's members suffer and go without food.

People who have job as civil servants such as teachers can stay at home and do online teaching. The outbreak do not influence their salary. Until now, the government does not say anything for people who must earn money day to day.

Because of the conditions above,  social distancing does not work. Another factors that cause social distancing cannot be implemented is the personal consciousness to care herself and others. As the effect of Covid-19 is slow and the local government does not share the real numbers of people who had affected by this virus, people think that the condition is not as horrifying as the news said. The local government keep saying and assuring that only one person died by Covid-19.  Others die because of different causes, one of them is dengue fever as now is rainy season. 

The shop, the mall, the restaurant and many other public place like garden,  Puncak area, are open as usual. Students are suggested to study at home.  However, many students wander around in public area, doing picnic. Or worse, many civil servants make a trip abroad. PDAM chief and his wife also his colleagues go to Europe. This raise criticism from all walk of life.  It's inappropriate for the administrators to just have holiday during isolation time.

Due to Covid-19 outbreak, students study at home. The teaching materials are about Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, teachers must come to schools and work as usual.  This rule sounds unfair.  Teachers also human and they have the same chance to get infected. There is no objections or response from teachers as it is like forbidden for us, Indonesian, to disagree with any decision the government issued.

Today, teachers are gathered to discuss what materials and what channels to be used during the self isolation time.

Online learning is not part of our teaching methods. We rely very much on face to face instruction.
The offer to use online mode raises problems for us, teachers. Firstly, we are not trained, yet, to use one of those applications/online method.
Secondly, it is not clear who teaches who. School says teachers teach online, period.

Ridiculous thing appears amongst teachers. They discuss a delicate matter. Bu, it is not how to teach, or how to stop the spread of the virus, BUT,  thinking HOW TO ASK APOLOGIES TO STUDENTS AS TEACHERS CANNOT ACCEPT SHAKING HANDS!

Quarantine Yoirself

Following the doubled victims of Covid 19 outbreak, West Java Province governor issued a letter that school is closed from 16 March to 29 March 2020.

This condition is responsed differently by people. Some people see this as nothing to worry about. Using that belief, they undergo their day as usual. Meaning they see no harm from this outbreak. 
Worse, the students  who are home,  they do not know why they should be home. No education or information given by the government regarding why the students be home.

Another worrying response is the belief spread by ulemas. They ask people not to belief in the Covid 19 outbreak. Death is in God's hand not in Coronavirus hand.

The governor decided to close schools after WHO demands Indonesia to admit the outbreak grow tripled in two weeks, higher than any other countries in the world.
