The meaning behind giving rice to bride

As soon as the bride and bridegroom accepted by the parents-in-law, they were welcomed and sat at the height of chair. 

Then, the mothers offered a plate of rice, the staple food.

The mothers gave the rice without any side dish. It was to symbolize that life enjoying only rice is not a complete life. No taste, no various taste.

Then a wife come, it meant that rice has its side dish, so life turned and offered different tastes.
